What is Child Psychologist?
A child psychologist assesses and supports the mental health, emotional development and behavioural challenges of children and adolescents — from developmental delays and learning disabilities to anxiety, trauma, ADHD and family relationship issues. In India, awareness of children's mental health has grown significantly with schools and parents increasingly seeking professional support. Child psychologists work in hospitals, schools, child guidance centres, NGOs, private practice and government child welfare institutions.
Is this right for you?
For PCB or Arts students with deep empathy for children and commitment to their wellbeing. Child psychology requires patience and the ability to build trust with children who may be guarded or unable to articulate their experiences. Formal clinical training (RCI registration in India) is mandatory for independent practice. If you find working with children naturally energising and want to address the mental health crisis among Indian youth, this is a vital and growing career.
