What is UPTAC BTech Counselling 2026?
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow conducts centralized BTech counselling for admissions into its affiliated engineering colleges across Uttar Pradesh. Admissions are based on JEE Main AIR (CRL) and conducted through the UPTAC counselling process.
UPTAC Counselling 2026 is expected to begin after JEE Main Session 2 results are declared, typically in June–July 2026. The process runs across multiple rounds:
- Round 1 (R1): First allotment — most competitive, lowest closing ranks
- Round 2 (R2): Upgrade round — students can float for better options
- Round 3 (R3): Mid-counselling — cutoffs begin to relax slightly
- Round 4 (R4): Further relaxation — borderline candidates start getting allotments
- Round 6 (R6): Extended round — significant seat availability
- Round 7 (R7): Final / Mop-up round — last opportunity, highest closing ranks
Seat allotment in each round depends on your JEE Main rank, category, domicile (Home State UP vs All India), and the choices you fill in the counselling portal. Students who receive allotment can choose to Freeze (accept the seat) or Float (keep the seat but try for a better upgrade in the next round).
Understanding Your Prediction Zone
Unlike other predictors that show meaningless percentages, UPTAC College Predictor 2026 tool assigns every college a confidence zone based on your rank gap, the round in which cutoff was recorded, and category-specific seat pool risk. Here is what each zone means:
| Zone | What It Means | Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| ✅ Safe | Your rank is comfortably within the historical closing rank. Very likely to get allotment in R1 or R2. | Lock this as your backup. Fill it high in your preference list. |
| 🎯 Target | Your rank is within range but with a moderate buffer. Good chance of allotment — likely by R2 or R3. | These are your primary choices. Fill multiple Target colleges. |
| ⚠️ Moderate | Borderline. Cutoffs can move against you. Possible but not assured — usually R4 to R6. | Fill these as aspirational backups. Do not depend on them alone. |
| 🚀 Reach | Historically difficult at your rank. This college will require cutoffs to relax significantly. | Fill as dream choices only. Have solid Safe and Target options ready. |
The confidence score shown on each card (out of 100) is a composite of your rank buffer, the round the cutoff was recorded in, and the category quota risk. A higher score means stronger historical alignment — not a guarantee of admission.
Round-Wise Strategy Guide for UPTAC/AKTU Counselling 2026
Most students make the mistake of treating all counselling rounds the same. Each round has a different strategic purpose:
Round 1 — Establish Your Floor
R1 has the most competitive closing ranks. Do not expect your dream college here unless you have a very strong rank. Use R1 to secure at least one Safe college so you have a confirmed seat. Fill your choices from most preferred to least preferred — AKTU will allot the best available match.
Rounds 2–3 — Float for Upgrades
If you got an allotment in R1 but want something better, choose Float. This keeps your current seat while the system tries to upgrade you. Cutoffs in R2 and R3 are slightly more relaxed as students who got their top choice in R1 exit the system, freeing up seats.
Rounds 4–6 — Borderline Window
This is where Moderate zone colleges become accessible. If your rank is borderline for a particular college, R4 to R6 often brings the cutoff up to your level. Keep floating if you have not secured your Target college yet.
Round 7 — Freeze and Lock
R7 is the final round. After R7, there are no more upgrades. If you have a seat allotted, Freeze it and complete document verification. Missing the R7 freeze deadline means losing your seat permanently. Do not gamble at this stage without a confirmed backup.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, this tool is completely free. No login, no registration, and no payment is required to use it.
The predictor uses official AKTU counselling closing rank data from 2025 across all rounds (R1 to R7), all categories, and all participating colleges. It does not use guesswork or crowd-sourced data.
For top government AKTU colleges like HBTU Kanpur or IET Lucknow, a rank below 25,000 (OPEN Home State) is generally required for CSE. For private AKTU colleges offering CSE, ranks up to 1,50,000 and beyond can secure admission depending on the college tier.
Yes. The database covers government, government-aided, and private engineering colleges affiliated with AKTU across Uttar Pradesh.
Home State (HS) quota is reserved for students domiciled in Uttar Pradesh and has more seat availability with relatively relaxed cutoffs. All India (AI) quota is open to students from any state but has fewer seats and is more competitive. Only OPEN category seats are available under AI quota for AKTU colleges.
TFW seats are supernumerary seats (over and above regular sanctioned intake) where selected students pay only hostel and mess fees — tuition is waived. These seats have their own cutoffs (OPEN(TF) category) and are separate from regular quota seats. TFW closing ranks tend to be higher (less competitive) than OPEN category.
These are confidence zones based on your rank gap with the historical closing rank, adjusted for which round the cutoff was recorded and your category’s seat pool size. Safe means very likely admission. Target means good chance. Moderate means borderline. Reach means historically difficult at your rank — apply as an aspirational choice only.
This predictor automatically uses the latest qualifying round for each college-branch-category combination, which gives the most realistic cutoff reference. R7 closing ranks are the most relaxed and represent the final opportunity — if your rank beats R7, you have a strong historical basis for expecting admission.
Yes — in fact, that is the best time to use it. Use this tool to build your preliminary shortlist, understand which colleges fall in your Safe and Target zones, and plan your choice filling strategy before the counselling portal opens.
No. Cutoffs change every year based on total applicants, seat matrix updates, JEE Main difficulty level, and other factors. This tool gives you a data-backed planning framework — not a guarantee. Always have multiple Safe zone colleges in your choice list.
