What is Pilot?
A pilot operates commercial aircraft carrying passengers and cargo across domestic and international routes. In India, commercial aviation is expanding rapidly — IndiGo, Air India, Vistara and SpiceJet are ordering hundreds of new aircraft while new airlines like Akasa Air are launching. India faces a significant pilot shortage and is expected to need 10,000+ new pilots over the next decade. It is one of the most aspirational and well-compensated careers in India, combining travel, technical skill and genuine responsibility.
Is this right for you?
For PCM students with strong physics and mathematics foundation, good health (DGCA Class 1 medical required), excellent spatial awareness and the ability to stay calm under pressure. The training is expensive — ₹60-80 lakh — making this accessible mainly to families who can fund it. If you are fascinated by aviation from childhood and can meet the health and academic requirements, there is no more exciting career.

Gulf airlines also recruit Indian pilots at premium salaries.
