What is Prompt Engineer?
A prompt engineer specialises in designing and optimising the instructions given to large language models like Claude, GPT or Gemini to get the best possible outputs. As AI becomes embedded in every product and workflow, the ability to communicate effectively with AI systems has become a valuable technical skill. In India, prompt engineering roles are emerging at AI startups, enterprise software companies, and in-house AI teams across sectors. It is one of the newest careers in tech and still defining itself rapidly.
Is this right for you?
Accessible to students from any stream who have strong language skills, logical thinking and genuine curiosity about AI. Unlike most tech roles, prompt engineering does not require deep programming knowledge — but it does require understanding how language models think and behave. Strong written communication is critical. Commerce and Arts students with analytical mindsets have entered this field successfully.
