Is the MAHE Online (Manipal Academy of Higher Education) Degree Valid? UGC Approval Explained
Yes. Manipal Academy of Higher Education appears on the UGC-DEB list of higher education institutions entitled to offer full-fledged online programmes from academic year 2026-27. Under the UGC regulations for online programmes, a degree from an entitled university’s online programme is treated as equivalent to the same degree earned on campus.
Two honest caveats. Your degree certificate and marksheets will mention that the programme was completed in online mode, which is a UGC requirement. And for government jobs, the recruiting body’s own notification always has the final word. You can check MAHE’s listing yourself on the UGC-DEB official portal.
One more thing to get right: an online degree from MUJ or SMU is not a MAHE degree, even though all three are sold on the same Online Manipal website. They are separate universities with separate UGC entitlements and very different fees.

What you will not find: MAHE does not claim AACSB, AMBA or EQUIS accreditation for its online MBA. Those international business-school accreditations belong to specific campus schools where they exist, and do not transfer to the online programme. If any counsellor tells you otherwise, ask them to show it on an official MAHE page.

MAHE Online does not offer an online BCA, a general B.Com, a BA, an MA or an M.Com. If you see MAHE quoted for those, the website is mixing it up with MUJ or SMU. The MBA is offered with several specialisations; check the current list on the programme page, because elective options change between batches.
Online Manipal also sells 12-month PG certificate programmes (PGCP) from MAHE. These are certificates, not degrees, and they are not part of the UGC degree list above.

Before you pay: MAHE is one of the most expensive online universities in India. Its online MBA costs about ₹1,08,000 more than the MUJ online MBA on the same Online Manipal platform, and well over double the SMU MBA. Be clear about what you are paying extra for before you commit. Online Manipal also warns students to pay only through official links on the onlinemanipal.com domain, never through agents, QR codes or other websites.
MAHE Online (Manipal Academy of Higher Education) Eligibility Criteria
- Online MBA: a 10+2+3 bachelor’s degree recognised by AIU, with at least 50% aggregate. MAHE asks for work experience; fresh graduates can apply by submitting a Statement of Purpose (SOP) video.
- Online MCA: a 10+2+3 bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications or IT, or a bachelor’s in another discipline where you studied mathematics. The programme is positioned for working professionals with at least 50% in graduation. Check the exact mathematics rule on the programme page before applying.
- Online M.Sc programmes: a recognised bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks. Some programmes have subject requirements, so confirm on the specific programme page.
- BBA (Hons), B.Com (Professional), B.Sc (ISM): Class 12 or a 10+3 diploma from a recognised board or institute, in any discipline, with at least 50% marks.
- Students educated abroad need an AIU equivalence certificate.
One detail most websites miss: unlike MUJ and SMU, MAHE’s published MBA eligibility does not mention a lower percentage for reserved categories. If that applies to you, ask the university before you apply.
MAHE Online (Manipal Academy of Higher Education) – Admission 2026: How to Apply, Step by Step
There is no entrance exam. The process runs entirely online.
- Apply on onlinemanipal.com and choose a programme that clearly says Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
- Pay the ₹1,500 application fee and fill in your education and work-experience details. Fresh MBA applicants upload an SOP video here.
- Pay the admission fee for the first semester, the first year, or the full programme.
- Upload documents: Aadhaar (mandatory for Indian citizens), address proof, Class 10 and 12 marksheets, and graduation marksheet for PG programmes.
- University approval: MAHE checks your documents and confirms your admission.
Admissions run in cycles with fixed closing dates. Do not let a countdown timer on any website rush you. If you miss one cycle, another usually follows, so it is better to apply once you are sure than to apply because a deadline is close.
How Classes and Exams Work at MAHE Online (Manipal Academy of Higher Education)
Classes run on the Online Manipal learning platform, with recorded lectures, live sessions and online assessments. Online Manipal advertises access to Coursera content with some programmes and external accreditations for certain programmes: the M.Sc Data Science and M.Sc Business Analytics are shown as accredited by the Institute of Analytics, and the B.Com (Professional) as ACCA-accredited. If those accreditations matter to your career plan, confirm exactly what they give you (for example, ACCA exam exemptions) before choosing the programme for that reason.
The exact live-class schedule, exam pattern and attendance rules can differ by programme. Ask for the programme handbook before you pay, and check how much of the teaching is live versus recorded.

No-cost EMI is available, starting at ₹12,167 a month for the MBA and ₹5,000 a month for the BBA (Hons) and B.Sc (ISM). EMI usually runs through a finance partner, so read the loan agreement carefully. A “no-cost” EMI can still carry processing fees, and on the MUJ and SMU programmes Online Manipal states that learners using loans or financing lose other discounts. Ask whether the same rule applies at MAHE.
MAHE Online (Manipal Academy of Higher Education) Placements & Career Support: The Honest Picture
Online Manipal offers placement assistance across its platform, but it does not publish verified, programme-wise placement data for MAHE online learners. Campus placement figures for MAHE’s on-campus institutes, such as Manipal Institute of Technology, do not apply to online learners. Do not let anyone use them to sell you an online programme.
The MBA is designed mainly for working professionals, which tells you how to think about it: the value usually comes from moving up or across in your current career, not from campus-style recruitment.
