VIT Online (branded VITOL — VIT Online Learning Institute) is the online degree arm of Vellore Institute of Technology, one of India’s highest-ranked private deemed universities. VIT Online is deliberately small — three live programmes against four UGC entitlements — and it has one feature almost no other university on this list has: end-semester exams are written at a physical exam centre in one of 31 Indian cities, not proctored from home. This page lists every verified fee and that trade-off in plain terms.
Last verified: 23 October 2026, against the official programme pages on programmes.vitonline.in, VIT’s own ranking-and-recognition page on vit.ac.in, and the UGC-DEB list of HEIs entitled to offer online programmes from AY 2026-27.

Is the VIT Online Degree Valid?
Yes. Vellore Institute of Technology appears on the UGC-DEB list of higher education institutions entitled to offer full-fledged online programmes from academic year 2026-27, for 4 named programmes: Bachelor of Commerce (General), Master of Computer Applications, Master of Business Administration and Master of Science (Data Science). Under the UGC regulations for online programmes, a degree from an entitled university’s online programme is treated as equivalent to the same degree earned on campus.
Your degree certificate will state that the programme was completed in online mode, as UGC requires, and for government jobs the recruiting body’s own notification always has the final word. You can check the listing yourself on the UGC-DEB official portal.
VIT Online: Accreditations, Rankings and Recognitions
VIT Online’s own programme pages lean on the parent university’s accreditation and rankings. Here is each one, checked against the body that actually issues it.
| Recognition | Status | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| NAAC | A++, CGPA 3.66 for VIT as a whole | The highest NAAC grade, awarded to the university as a whole. It is not a separate rating of the online programmes. |
| NIRF (Ministry of Education) | #14 University category in NIRF 2025, per VIT’s own official ranking page | This matches the “Top 14 University” claim on VIT Online’s own MBA page — one of the few universities on this list where the marketing claim and the current official rank actually agree. |
| UGC-DEB | Entitled to offer 4 online programmes from AY 2026-27 | This is what makes the online degree valid. It is the recognition that matters most. |
| AICTE | VIT Online’s own MBA and MCA pages explicitly state “AICTE Approved” | Relevant if an employer or exam asks for AICTE approval on your management or computer applications degree. The M.Sc Data Science page does not make this claim — M.Sc is a pure science degree and AICTE typically does not cover it. |
| QS World University Rankings | 791–800 global band (QS 2025), per VIT’s own official ranking page | A whole-university international ranking. It says nothing about the online degrees specifically. |

VIT Online (Vellore Institute of Technology): Courses Offered
VIT is entitled to 4 online programmes. Only 3 are open for admission on the VIT Online site right now — the fourth, a B.Com (General), is UGC-entitled but we could not find it listed anywhere on programmes.vitonline.in.
| Programme | Duration | Structure | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| MBA | 24 months | Mixed mode — recorded content plus 1 hour/week/subject live sessions. Elective baskets across functional areas such as Marketing, Operations and Finance | Open |
| MCA | 24 months | Mixed mode, recorded plus live sessions. Core computer applications curriculum | Open |
| M.Sc (Data Science) | 24 months | Mixed mode, recorded plus live sessions. Core data science curriculum with elective courses | Open |
| B.Com (General) | — | UGC-entitled for AY 2026-27 | UGC-entitled, but not listed for admission on VIT Online when we checked |
Source: UGC-DEB list of entitled HEIs for AY 2026-27; programmes.vitonline.in, checked 23 October 2026.
If you need the online B.Com specifically, ask VIT Online in writing whether and when it will open — do not assume it is available just because it is on the UGC list.
VIT Online Fees Structure 2026-27
All three live programmes show a higher “sticker” fee and a lower fee that actually applies whether you pay in full, in 2 instalments or in 4 — in other words, the lower number is the real total. A ₹1,200 application fee and a ₹10,000 registration payment apply on top, across all three programmes.
| Programme | Listed fee | Actual payable total | Extra charges |
|---|---|---|---|
| MBA (24 months) | ₹1,80,000 | ₹1,60,000 (full payment, or 2 × ₹80,000, or 4 × ₹40,000) | ₹1,200 application fee + ₹10,000 registration |
| MCA (24 months) | ₹1,60,000 | ₹1,40,000 (full payment, or 2 × ₹70,000, or 4 × ₹35,000) | ₹1,200 application fee + ₹10,000 registration |
| M.Sc Data Science (24 months) | ₹1,70,000 | ₹1,50,000 (full payment, or 2 × ₹75,000, or 4 × ₹37,500) | ₹1,200 application fee + ₹10,000 registration |
Source: official programme fee tables on programmes.vitonline.in, checked 23 October 2026. Fees mentioned are indicative. Verify directly with the university before making any decision.
Read this before you pay: VIT Online’s own fee tables list a higher headline figure (₹1,80,000 for the MBA, for example) right next to a lower “Pay in Full / 2 instalments / 4 instalments” total that is identical across all three payment options. In practice, the lower number is what you actually pay — confirm this with VIT in writing before committing, since the two figures sitting side by side can be confusing.
VIT Online Eligibility Criteria
- MBA: a bachelor’s degree of at least 3 years from a recognised university with at least 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST candidates).
- MCA: BCA, B.Sc (Computer Science/IT) or a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering/IT with at least 50% marks (45% SC/ST) — OR any bachelor’s degree of at least 3 years with at least 50% marks (45% SC/ST) and Mathematics as a subject at 10+2 or graduation level.
- M.Sc Data Science: an engineering degree with at least 50% (45% SC/ST) — OR a bachelor’s degree of at least 3 years in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering and Technology with at least 50% aggregate (45% SC/ST).
VIT Online (Vellore Institute of Technology) – Admission 2026: How to Apply, Step by Step
- Choose your programme — MBA, MCA or M.Sc Data Science — on programmes.vitonline.in and request the brochure.
- Submit the online application and pay the ₹1,200 application fee.
- Clear the eligibility and document check; VIT Online does not run a separate entrance test for these programmes, unlike on-campus VIT admissions, which use VITEEE, VITMEE or VITBEE. Do not confuse the two.
- Pay the ₹10,000 registration amount once selected, within 7 days as stated on the fee table.
- Choose your payment plan — full, 2 instalments or 4 instalments — and complete your first payment to get your VIT Online login.
VIT Online runs January and July intake cycles; the exact batch start date is announced closer to the session and is described on the site as tentative.
How Classes and Exams Work at VIT Online
Classes are mixed mode: recorded lectures plus roughly 1 hour of live faculty session per subject per week. The part that sets VIT Online apart from almost every other university on this list is the end-semester examination: you sit it at a physical, designated exam centre, not on a proctored webcam exam from home. VIT Online lists 31 exam centre cities across India — including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Vellore itself — each capped at 500 students.
Check that an exam centre exists reasonably close to you before you enrol. If none of the 31 cities is practical for you, VIT Online’s exam format may not suit you as well as a university that offers fully remote proctored exams.
VIT Online Scholarships, EMI & Financial Aid
We did not find a published scholarship or merit-waiver scheme on the VIT Online programme pages beyond the SC/ST eligibility relaxation (50% down to 45%). The fee is split into instalments (full, 2-part or 4-part) at the same total cost, which functions as a basic payment-flexibility option rather than a discount. Ask VIT Online directly in writing if you are hoping for a merit or need-based scholarship — we found no evidence of one for these online programmes.
VIT Online Placements & Career Support: The Honest Picture
VIT Online’s programme pages focus on the curriculum, faculty and alumni-network access rather than on a published, online-programme-specific placement record. VIT the university runs an active Career Development Centre and publishes placement data for its on-campus programmes, but we did not find equivalent, program-level placement statistics for the online MBA, MCA or M.Sc Data Science cohorts.
Treat the “join the VIT alumni network” messaging as a genuine benefit, not as a placement guarantee. If placement outcomes matter to your decision, ask VIT Online directly for online-programme-specific data before you enrol.
Why You Should Choose VIT Online? And Who Should Think Twice
| Choose VIT Online if… | Think twice if… |
|---|---|
| You want an online degree from a university whose current NIRF #14 University rank matches what it actually advertises | You want fully remote, from-home proctored exams — VIT Online requires a physical exam centre visit each semester |
| You live near or can travel to one of VIT’s 31 exam-centre cities without much difficulty | You live far from all 31 exam centres, or travel for exams is a genuine problem for you |
| You want the MBA or MCA specifically confirmed as AICTE-approved, as stated on VIT’s own programme pages | You are hoping for a published, online-specific placement record — VIT Online does not publish one |
| You want the UGC-entitled online B.Com — check first; it was not live on the VIT Online site when we checked, despite being on the UGC-DEB list | You are expecting a scholarship or merit discount; we found none published for these programmes |
