SRM Online is the online degree platform of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, one of India’s best-known deemed universities. SRM Online is small and focused by design: just five UGC-entitled programmes, each priced as one simple package rather than a maze of electives. This page lists every verified fee, the exact UGC-DEB entitlement and the rankings that actually belong to the online programmes versus the wider university.
Last verified: 23 October 2026, against the official programme and fee pages on srmonline.in, SRMIST’s own mandatory-disclosures page, the official NIRF 2025 ranking tables, and the UGC-DEB list of HEIs entitled to offer online programmes from AY 2026-27.

Is the SRM Online Degree Valid?
Yes. SRM Institute of Science and Technology appears on the UGC-DEB list of higher education institutions entitled to offer full-fledged online programmes from academic year 2026-27, for 5 named programmes: Master of Business Administration, Master of Computer Applications, Master of Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration (Digital Marketing) and Bachelor of Computer Applications (Data Science). Under the UGC regulations for online programmes, a degree from an entitled university’s online programme is treated as equivalent to the same degree earned on campus.
SRM’s own mandatory-disclosures page lists the UGC approval letter reference as F.No. 1-10/2025(DEB-SR), dated 30 October 2025, along with the earlier letters going back to 2020. Your degree certificate will state that the programme was completed in online mode, as UGC requires, and for government jobs the recruiting body’s own notification always has the final word. You can check the listing yourself on the UGC-DEB official portal and SRM’s own UGC/AICTE disclosures page.
SRM Online: Accreditations, Rankings and Recognitions
SRM Online’s own course pages carry several badges. Here is each one, checked against the body that actually issues it, and whether it covers the online programmes or only the parent university.
| Recognition | Status | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| NAAC | A++ for SRM Institute of Science and Technology (4th cycle) | The highest NAAC grade, awarded to the university as a whole. It is not a separate rating of the online programmes. |
| NIRF (Ministry of Education) | #11 University category in NIRF 2025, per SRMIST’s own official ranking page; #22 Overall; #14 Engineering; #56 Management | This ranks the university, mostly on on-campus data. NIRF does not rank online programmes separately. Note the conflict below. |
| UGC-DEB | Entitled to offer 5 online programmes from AY 2026-27 | This is what makes the online degree valid. It is the recognition that matters most. |
| AICTE | SRM Online’s FAQ confirms the MBA and MCA are AICTE-approved | Relevant if an employer or exam asks for AICTE approval on your management or computer applications degree. Course pages describe all five programmes as “AICTE approved”. |
| UGC Category I | SRMIST holds Category I autonomous-institution status from the UGC | A university-wide governance status, not specific to online programmes. |
| QS World University Rankings | SRMIST places at #637 globally / #173 in Asia / #19 in India (QS 2025, per SRMIST’s own published figures) | A whole-university international ranking. It says nothing about the online degrees specifically. |
| QS I-GAUGE | Rated 4-Star, “Diamond” category | This is a separate Indian quality-assessment system run by QS I-GAUGE, not the QS World University Rankings. SRM Online’s own pages blur the two under one asterisk; treat them as different things. |

An honest flag: SRM Online’s own programme pages advertise “Ranked 12 in MHRD-NIRF”, while SRMIST’s official ranking page puts the university at #11 for NIRF 2025. The “#12” figure matches NIRF 2024, not 2025. Neither number is wrong on its own; the marketing page simply has not been updated. Go by the official nirfindia.org notification for the current year.
SRM Online (SRM Institute of Science and Technology): Courses Offered
SRM is entitled to exactly 5 online programmes, and all 5 are open for admission right now. Unlike many universities on this list, SRM does not offer a long menu of electives for every degree — the BBA and BCA each come in one UGC-entitled specialisation only.
| Programme | Duration | Specialisation / electives | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| MBA | 2 years | Finance, Marketing, HR, Business Analytics, Healthcare & Hospital Management, Logistics & Supply Chain, AI & Data Science, International Business, IT Management (E-Commerce & Retail and Pharmaceutical Management added from the July 2026 session, per SRM’s FAQ) | Open |
| MCA | 2 years | Core Computer Applications curriculum (Python, AI/ML, Data Science) | Open |
| M.Com | 2 years | General Commerce, with fee concessions for specific categories (see Scholarships section) | Open |
| BBA | 3 years | Digital Marketing — this is the only UGC-entitled BBA specialisation at SRM Online | Open |
| BCA | 3 years | Data Science — this is the only UGC-entitled BCA specialisation at SRM Online | Open |
Source: UGC-DEB list of entitled HEIs for AY 2026-27 (specific specialisations named in the official list); srmonline.in programme pages, checked 23 October 2026.
One thing worth knowing: the MBA FAQ on SRM’s own site lists up to 11 specialisations, but the UGC-DEB entry for MBA does not name a specific one, so you have more real choice in the MBA than in the BBA or BCA.
SRM Online Fees Structure 2026-27
SRM Online prices each programme as one package, with a per-semester, annual, one-time or 24-month EMI option for the two postgraduate programmes. Examination fees are charged separately on top of every fee below — SRM states this explicitly on each programme page.
| Programme | Per semester | Full programme (self-pay / one-time) | International |
|---|---|---|---|
| MBA (2 yrs, 4 sem) | ₹52,500 | ₹1,89,000 one-time, or ₹94,500 × 2 years, or 24-month EMI at ₹7,875/month + 3% processing | $1,850 / year |
| MCA (2 yrs, 4 sem) | ₹40,000 | ₹1,50,000 one-time, or ₹75,000 × 2 years, or 24-month EMI at ₹6,250/month + 3% processing | $1,050 / year |
| M.Com (2 yrs, 4 sem) | ₹25,000 | ₹1,00,000 (concessions available — see below) | $600 / year |
| BBA, Digital Marketing (3 yrs, 6 sem) | ₹21,500 | ₹1,29,000 | $634 / year |
| BCA, Data Science (3 yrs, 6 sem) | ₹21,500 | ₹1,29,000 | $634 / year |
Source: official programme fee pages on srmonline.in, checked 23 October 2026. Fees mentioned are indicative. Verify directly with the university before making any decision.
Read this before you pay:
- Every programme page says the listed fee is “exclusive of Examination fee” — budget extra for exams and certificates each semester, on top of the numbers above.
- The ₹500 (domestic) / $15 (international) application fee is non-refundable and separate from the programme fee.
- For the MBA and MCA, paying one-time or annually works out cheaper than the per-semester total — compare the numbers above before you choose a plan.
SRM Online Eligibility Criteria
- MBA: a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university with at least 50% aggregate (or equivalent patterns such as 10+2+3, 10+2+4, 10+2+5, 10+3+3, 10+3+2, or CA/CS/ICWA). NCrF Level 6.0 minimum.

- BBA and BCA: Class 12 pass from a recognised board, with at least 50% marks.

How Classes and Exams Work at SRM Online
Classes run live on SRM’s online learning platform (powered by Codetantra), supported by AI-based student support and 24×5 chat helpdesk. SRM’s own site states that, in line with UGC rules, you need at least 75% participation across all programme activities before you are allowed to sit the end-semester or term-end examination.
Examinations are conducted in online proctored mode. Keep in mind that exam fees are charged separately each semester, on top of the tuition fee shown above.
SRM Online Scholarships, EMI & Financial Aid
For the M.Com programme, SRM Online publishes a clear concession scheme: a 50% fee concession for SRM Group employees, SRM Group students, SRM Group alumni, wards of SRM Group staff, all Government employees, and Persons with Disability, Transgender persons, Defence and Paramilitary Forces personnel, and prison inmates. A 25% concession applies to all other meritorious students. We did not find an equivalent published concession list for the MBA, MCA, BBA or BCA — ask SRM directly if you believe you qualify for one of these categories.
The MBA and MCA also offer a 24-month, 0%-interest EMI option (₹7,875/month for the MBA, ₹6,250/month for the MCA) with a 3% processing fee. As with any 0% EMI offer, read the loan terms before signing — the processing fee is a real cost even when the interest is zero.
SRM Online Placements & Career Support: The Honest Picture
SRM Online advertises a “Students Gateway” career-services package: access to what it calls 2,300+ hiring partners, resume-building sessions, interview-preparation workshops and personalised career counselling, plus lateral placement assistance for online students. It also states a “60% Alumni Career Transitions” figure on its programme pages.
That 60% figure is not broken down by programme, by batch or by what counts as a “career transition” — it is a self-reported marketing number, not an audited, program-level placement statistic. Treat SRM Online’s career support as a genuine added service, but do not treat the 60% figure as a guarantee or as comparable to a college’s published placement report.
Why You Should Choose SRM Online? And Who Should Think Twice
| Choose SRM Online if… | Think twice if… |
|---|---|
| You want a single-price, no-electives-maze degree from a NAAC A++, UGC-Category I deemed university | You specifically want a BBA or BCA specialisation other than Digital Marketing or Data Science — SRM only offers one each |
| You are comparing against universities whose MBA electives push the fee past ₹2 lakh — SRM’s MBA tops out around ₹2.1 lakh with no elective premium | You are relying on the “Ranked 12 in MHRD-NIRF” claim on SRM’s own site; the current official NIRF 2025 figure is #11, not #12 |
| You want the MBA and MCA specifically confirmed as AICTE-approved, in SRM’s own FAQ | You are counting on the “60% Alumni Career Transitions” figure as a placement guarantee; it is a self-reported, non-program-specific number |
| You qualify for the M.Com fee concession (SRM Group staff/students/alumni, Government employees, or specific reserved categories) and want a 50% discount | You need a wide range of MBA electives in finance-adjacent or niche fields; SRM’s list is solid but shorter than some competitors |
