Is the GGSIPU Online (GGSIPU Centre for Distance and Online Education) Degree Valid? UGC Approval Explained

Yes. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha Vishwavidyalaya appears on the UGC-DEB list of higher education institutions entitled to start full-fledged online programmes from academic year 2026-27. Under the UGC regulations for online programmes, a degree earned through an entitled university’s online programme is treated as equivalent to the same degree earned in conventional mode. GGSIPU’s prospectus also states that each degree will carry a unique identification number and be uploaded to the National Academic Depository.

Two honest caveats. First, the degree certificate and marksheets will mention the mode of delivery (online), along with the dates of admission and completion. That is a UGC requirement, not a weakness, but you should know it. Second, for government jobs the recruiting body’s own notification always has the final word, so check it before you rely on any degree. GGSIPU Online (GGSIPU Centre for Distance and Online Education): Courses Offered

This is where most websites get GGSIPU Online wrong. The UGC-DEB list entitles GGSIPU to offer four online programmes from 2026-27. But the official prospectus says that for this academic session, the university is offering only two: BBA and B.Com.

GGSIPU Online does not offer an online MBA, M.Com or BCA. If another website quotes fees for those, it is not quoting GGSIPU. For the MCA and MA (Mass Communication), keep an eye on the CDOE website, since the university is entitled to launch them but has not opened admission in the current prospectus.

The BBA lets you pick a specialisation in the final semester from Human Resource Management, Marketing, Finance, International Business and Entrepreneurship Development. Both programmes follow the same scheme and syllabus as GGSIPU’s conventional programmes at the University School of Management Studies, and both include a compulsory internship.

GGSIPU publishes the full semester-wise breakup, which is rare. The fee is the same for BBA and B.Com.

Add it up and the full three-year degree costs about ₹90,400: ₹15,200 for the first semester, ₹15,000 for each of the next five, and the ₹200 registration fee. That makes it one of the lowest-cost online degrees from a NAAC-accredited public university in India.

GGSIPU Online (GGSIPU Centre for Distance and Online Education) Eligibility Criteria

• Online BBA: Class 12 (Senior Secondary or Higher Secondary) or an equivalent qualification at Level 4. The prospectus does not specify a minimum percentage or a required stream.
• Online B.Com: Class 12 or an equivalent qualification at Level 4. Again, no minimum percentage or stream is specified in the prospectus.
• Location: learners living inside or outside India can enrol in a UGC-entitled university’s online programme.

Because the prospectus is silent on minimum marks, confirm with the CDOE admission helpline if your Class 12 marks are low or your board is unusual.

GGSIPU Online (GGSIPU Centre for Distance and Online Education) – Admission 2026: How to Apply, Step by Step

Admission to GGSIPU Online is direct, based on your Class 12. This is the biggest difference from regular IP University admission. On campus and at affiliated colleges, BBA and B.Com seats are filled through IPU CET (or CUET) and counselling. The online programmes skip all of that.

1. Open the CDOE page from www.ipu.ac.in and click Apply Now, then choose BBA or B.Com.
2. Submit the online application and pay the non-refundable ₹200 registration and processing fee.
3. Receive an acknowledgement by email.
4. Document verification: photograph, signature, Class 12 certificate and marksheet, Aadhaar, DEB-ID and APAAR ID. After successful verification you get a confirmation email.
5. Pay the semester fee through the online fee portal.
6. Receive your University Enrolment Number. Your admission status is shared through the portal and your registered email.

Two documents trip people up: the DEB-ID and the APAAR ID. Create both before you apply, through the UGC-DEB and ABC portals. How Classes and Exams Work at GGSIPU Online (GGSIPU Centre for Distance and Online Education)

Most learning happens on a SWAYAM-enabled learning management system, which GGSIPU runs through its collaboration with IIT Madras. Each course follows UGC’s four-quadrant format: recorded video lectures, e-content such as e-books and case studies, a discussion forum for doubts, and assessments. On top of that, a course coordinator takes one live interactive class every week, and a faculty mentor is assigned to you for the whole programme.

Assessment is 30% continuous (quizzes, assignments, presentations, case studies) and 70% term-end exam, conducted online. You need at least 75% participation in the prescribed online activities to sit the term-end exam. That rule matters: this is not a “pay and appear” degree.

Under NEP 2020, both programmes allow multiple exits. Leave after year one and you get a UG Certificate, after year two a UG Diploma, and after year three the full degree. The maximum time allowed to finish is double the normal duration.

The prospectus does not mention any scholarship, fee waiver or EMI plan for the online programmes. At ₹15,000 a semester, the fee is already far lower than most private online universities. The prospectus says placement assistance is provided through the university’s Central Placement Cell under its placement policy, and it states clearly that this does not constitute a guarantee of employment. This is a new online programme, so there is no placement data for online learners yet. Campus placement figures for GGSIPU’s University Schools do not apply to the online programmes, so do not mix them up.

An online BBA or B.Com pays off most when you pair it with real experience: an internship (which is built into both programmes), a part-time job, or a skill you can show. If you are a fresher choosing between this and a regular college, weigh what the regular college gives you that the online programme cannot: daily classes, a peer group and campus recruitment.
