What is Data Analyst?
A data analyst examines datasets to find trends, patterns and insights that help organisations make better decisions. Unlike data scientists who build predictive models, data analysts focus on understanding what has already happened and presenting it clearly. You clean messy data, create visualisations, build dashboards and answer business questions with numbers. In India, data analysts are needed across every industry โ€” from e-commerce to hospitals to government agencies. It is one of the most accessible high-paying roles for students from any stream with strong analytical skills.
Is this right for you?
Excellent entry point for Commerce or PCM students who enjoy working with numbers but do not want to go deep into programming or machine learning. Strong Excel and SQL skills are the core requirements. You should enjoy turning raw numbers into clear stories โ€” if you can explain what the data says in simple language, you will excel in this role.
